Scotland Part 5: Mamas and Llamas

As you can probably tell, I’m still on cloud 9 after returning from our trip to Scotland last month! It was a total blast and a vacation that I don’t think I’ll ever forget!

One of the most fun moments of the trip for me was when Katie, mama, Anne, and I got to pet on the llamas and alpacas I told y’all about in the last Scotland post that were at the Sandhill House in Troon!

They were SO SWEET!

I’ll leave you with one of the sweetest faces EVER!!

Awwww I miss him!!! He was a doll!

And I guess that about wraps it up as far as Scotland! Thanks for sticking with me through the 5-part, super-spread-out recap!

I hope you have a WONDERFUL day! And don’t forget to vote in the runoff today if you live in Mississippi! Voting is a PRIVILEGE!!!! So get out there! 🙂

Cheers!

Scotland Part 4: Out and About

It’s now been a week since I posted our last Scotland update. I’m a liiiittle behind but slowly trying to get caught up!

Anyway, you already read all about St. Andrews, Troon & Maidens, and Edinburgh. Today I’m just sharing a little about a few side trips we ladies took while the men folk were playing golf!

GLAMIS CASTLE

This castle was absolutely lovely! This is where the Queen Mother spent a good portion of her childhood with her siblings! It was decked to the nines inside with furniture, art, set tables… They even had some of the clothes that the people of the house used to wear around!

Glamis Castle, Scotland // THE HIVE

Sadly, they didn’t allow any inside photography so you’ll just have to go see this one for yourself! This was probably my favorite castle we visited because of all the original furnishings and character left intact.

Another neat part about visiting this castle was the little restaurant/tea room in it! We had a FANTASTIC lunch here!

Glamis Castle, Scotland // THE HIVE

Glamis Castle, Scotland // THE HIVE

So much about this restaurant reminded us of Downton Abbey. We loved it!

STERLING CASTLE

Sadly, I didn’t get any pictures of the outside of this castle! But it, too, was very beautiful and had a rich history tied to William Wallace and Robert the Bruce (you know, from Braveheart! Which turns out to be a terribly historically inaccurate account of what happened, as we learned! Sad!) The guys did get to come with us to this castle and I think they all really enjoyed the Braveheart tour portion of the day! 🙂

The views were actually prettier than the castle, which I did happen to get some pictures of!

After going to Sterling Castle, Mo took us to the William Wallace national monument. It was neat looking, but we were running short on time so we didn’t go all the way up! Just admired it from the bottom of the hill!

 HIGHLAND CATTLE

One fun stop we made while voyaging from place to place was at a little cow pasture of sorts where we met a few Highlands cows! They were so cute with their shaggy hair and long bangs!!

Highlands Cows in Scotland // THE HIVEThis one’s name was Hamish. He is apparently famous… (?) There was a sign explaining why he’s famous but I didn’t read it. I think this was right before I was starting to feel sick from all the winding roads that we were driving on to get to dinner one night…

Highland Cows in Scotland // THE HIVE

Anyway, here he is with his black friend!

Highland Cows in Scotland // THE HIVEThey were fun to visit!

BRIG O’ DOON

One exceptionally gorgeous stop we made was by the Brig O’ Doon, which was where Scottish poet Robert Burns spent a lot of time. (You probably know one noteworthy piece of his work– The New Year’s song Auld Lang Syne!) It’s an old bridge that currently leads to nowhere, but is surrounded by beautiful landscaping, lots of sheep, a pretty little creek, and a restaurant/museum!

Here’s the view from the top of the bridge!

And the view down the bridge…

And a few pictures of Katie, mama, and me with the cute sheep in the background!

And those were the highlights of our little side trips!

Here we four girls are just randomly getting Mo to take  our picture on the side of the road with some pretty Scottish countryside and rooftops behind us on the way back to one of our B&Bs one afternoon. I can’t remember exactly what prompted this stop/photo op, but if I do, I’ll be sure to come back and tell you… Ha!

Scotland // THE HIVEHave you visited any of these places? Would love to know what you thought!!!

Stay tuned for just one more (very) goofy post about Scotland in the next few days! Then that’ll wrap up this recap! 🙂

Thanks so much for stopping by today! Hope you’re having a good week!!

Scotland Part 3: Edinburgh

While we were staying in St. Andrews on our recent Scotland trip, we took a day trip to Edinburgh to see the sights of the big city!

On the way to the main event (Edinburgh Castle), we enjoyed walking up the Royal Mile, stopping in shops and churches, and just taking in the sights of such a beautiful (and old!) place!

That’s the ceiling of St. Giles Cathedral! So pretty, right?

And there is the castle! It was prettier than it looks in this picture…

To me, the best parts of the castle were the views of the city from up high… You could see for miles!

I also loved parts of the castle itself. For some reason the black + white + stone of this part of the castle stole my heart! Not sure why… 🙂

And this puppy cemetery where soldiers’ dogs are buried was just so sweet!!

After castling, we shopped, ate dinner at a beautiful hotel (the name of which I can’t seem to remember), and headed back to St. Andrews for some much-needed sleep after a long but great day!

I have just a couple more Scotland posts for you, but I’m probably going to switch gears for the rest of the week and show you some SUPER fun looks that Elish, Katie, and I worked on yesterday! Can’t wait to share! 🙂

Have an amazing day and thank you for stopping in! 🙂

Scotland Part 1: St. Andrews

Our trip to Scotland last week was an absolute BLAST!!!

On the trip was my mama and daddy, my brother Jordan and his wife Katie, Price and me, and a born-Scottish-now-Canadian couple that my parents know through business– Anne and Andy!

Andy’s brother Paul is a caddy at one of the big golf courses over in Scotland so the guys got to play 5 pretty incredible rounds of golf while the ladies sight saw, ate a lot, shopped, and enjoyed the beauty of our surroundings!

Maurice of Deveron Travel in Scotland // THE HIVE

Meet Mo!

We were taken care of by a driver/tour guide/trip organizer named Maurice from Deveron Travel. He told us we could call him Mo so that’s what we called him most of the time! Mo was the SWEETEST, most humble, most accommodating person I might have ever met. We absolutely fell in love with him!! If you ever travel to the lovely land of Scotland, I highly recommend contacting Mo to help you with your trip! You can find his Facebook page here! His company is relatively new so he needs some more likes!! (hint, hint, nudge, nudge!)

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Leg #1 of our trip was in St. Andrews, which claims to be the birthplace of golf. Paul says that may or may not be true, but whatever the case, The Old Course at St. Andrews is a highly sought after place to swing your clubs, so the guys were stoked to get to play it! The 1st tee box and the 18th green are right next to each other (weird.) so you can watch people start and end their round from the same spot! Katie and I actually happened to time a walk to the course perfectly and we saw the guys walking to the 18th green! Here they are:

The 18th green at The Old Course at St. Andrews // THE HIVE

Other than golf, there is a good bit to do in St. Andrews! They have several streets lined with great shops, restaurants, residences, pretty churches, etc… We loved just meandering around this place!

We even got to see where Will and Kate met!!! WHAT?! They were both in school at St. Andrews at the time! Who knew? (Not me!) 🙂

The place we stayed here was really cute! It was a quaint little B&B that we liked a lot! It was here that I tried my first and only bite of haggis… Sheep guts just aren’t my thing… But they actually did taste good! Had I not known what I was eating, I might have had more but… I figured such foreign food might not be good for the baby! 😉

Our next stop was Troon, then on to Turnberry, with a few stops in between! I hope to get more pics up soon! 🙂

Have any of you ever visited St. Andrews? I’d love to know what you thought of the place! 🙂

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you’re having a good week so far!

Little Winter Trip to the Big Apple { PART 3 }

The sights of a wintery NYC were freaking fantastic, as highlighted in Part 1 and Part 2, but what’s a vacation without great eating?! We had some wildly divine food and drinks that are worth sharing!

A little restaurant called Fig & Olive was recommended to us by a friend here in Jackson, and we loved it!! They have several locations, but we went to the one on Fifth! We went for brunch on a Saturday and the service was slightly slow, but I will say… They were pretty busy. The food and drinks, however, completely made up for the slow service in my opinion! It was a Mediterranean place with a vibrant atmosphere. So fun!

Between meals one day, Price and I stopped into the little local Christmas Market in Central Park that Katie, Jordan, and I had stumbled upon early in the trip before Price got there! We got Bantam Bagel’s cream cheese stuffed bagel balls, which were the perfect little size! K, J, and I had gotten these bagel balls the day before so I knew I had to take Price back to experience this lovely little snack!

After a little research, it turns out that their permanent location is Bleecker Street! I certainly want to make them a part of every NYC trip from here on out! 🙂

Snacking in Central Park // { THE HIVE }

One cool little place we ended up going a couple of times was the beer garden esque restaurant at our hotel, The Hudson, called Hudson Common! The restaurant was one huge, open room with long tables and a beautiful bar! We only went to have a drink a time or two, but never did get food. The menu looked delicious but we were never there at the same time the kitchen was open! Anyway, I fell in love with their Pink Slip cocktail. Totes recommend for the ladies! (It’s pretty girly, so guys, stick with beer…) 🙂

Laconda Verde in TriBeCa was another place recommended to us by friends from Jackson. This dark, cozy, modern Italian restaurant was simply amazing! The menu was really unique and the service was so friendly! We got seats at the bar so thankfully we didn’t have to wait for a table, and the bartender serving us was so personable, attentive, and gave us some great local tips!

One of the most memorable aspects of dinner at this place was that Price was seated two people down from political author Ann Coulter! Since she was our only celeb sighting, she was by default the most memorable… 🙂

Overall, we LOVED this place! Thanks to the Griffins for telling us about this tasty little jewel!

Laconda Verde in NYC // { THE HIVE }

Cheers!

Cheers to Laconda Verde!

While at Laconda Verde, we struck up conversations with a couple of the people seated close to us. One of these people (actually, it was the guy seated between Price and Ann Coulter!) ended up being the owner of Gramercy Tavern, another local restaurant! He told us to try to come by for a meal before the end of our trip, so Price and I went for lunch the next day!

The wait was very long, but we lucked up again and got seats at the bar, which dramatically cut down the wait time! Price got the burger special and I got some gnocci along with some lovely craft cocktails. It was a FAB lunch in a beautiful European feeling restaurant! I highly recommend this place! (And I also recommend reservations! haha!)

Another AMAZING restaurant that all of us were insane about was called Nino’s Tuscany Steak House. We chose this place based on reviews we found online. We wanted a place that served steak as well as some great non-beef options. Trip Advisor did not steer us wrong! We were having so much fun at this joint that we didn’t even take any pictures! This was one of the few meals that all six of us got to eat together, but we all agreed that it was on the top of our list of favorites from the stay in NYC. Seriously SO good, and based on the small crowd there, isn’t widely known! A diamond in the rough!

The last great meal I wanted to share about was at Paola’s. This place was also Italian (what can I say? We LOVE Italian!) and shared with/recommended by our New York dwelling relatives, the Brickells!

The warm, retro feel in the restaurant instantly made us feel at ease, even if it was pretty high end! (Madison Avenue, white table cloths, multiple waiters per table… You get the idea!)

The food was perfect– Moderately sized portions and really good bread to start with!– and so was the company. We always love getting to visit with the Brickells! To continue this perfect afternoon, we walked a few blocks over to their church post lunch for a 4 o’clock service of Christmas carols! It was lovely!

Although this last place isn’t quite a restaurant, it was definitely noteworthy. Club Macanudo was picked by the guys because of the cigars! It was super manly with lots of leather, and they allowed indoor smoking so Jordan, Price, and I all smoked cigars! (Mine was tiny… That’s about all I care to handle!)

The cocktails were great too. We loved the Manhattan Mojitos! This was a super fun night!!

Macanudo Club // ( THE HIVE )

We had a blast and, as you can guess, all gained weight on this trip… But it was so worth it! Now that January is here, we’ve started “health month” to get back on track with healthy eating a exercise! Wish us luck… 😉

I hope all of you are having a fabulous January so far! Thanks for checking in! 🙂

Little Winter Trip to the Big Apple { PART 1 }

The week before Christmas, Price and I got to join my brother Jordan, his wife Katie, our longtime friend Lan, and his cute lil lady, also named Katie, for a quick little trip to the Big Apple!

Ready to jetset! // { THE HIVE }

Price and I had never been to New York in the winter, so it was a whole new experience for us!! It was absolutly GORGEOUS all decorated for Christmas and covered in a soft blanket of crisp white snow! We had such a ball in a beautiful city with some of the best people ever!

I took a ton of pictures, so there will be parts 2 and 3 about this trip later this week! I can’t wait to share more about NYC in the winter with you!!!

Thanks for stopping in today. Until next time… X’s and O’s!

Well, that was fun!

Well, that was a fun trip!! We should do it again sometime! 😉

An extra special thanks to the Brickells, our cousins who live in NYC. They showed us around on Sunday and even let Price play a round of golf with them! They were definitely one of the biggest highlights of the trip!

Overall, we had a grand time and can’t wait to go back! 🙂

InstaNYC, Part 1

Price and I got back from New York late Monday night and we can’t stop talking about what a great time we had! Although it was a fairly short trip, we got in a LOT! We were constantly on the go, making the best use of time that we could! Here’s a quick recap of the first half of our trip (via my Instagram photos, plus a couple!)

Celebrating Four Years With Spontaneity

Today, my husband Price and I are celebrating FOUR years of marriage!! Wow, we’re such an old couple!! 🙂 It’s definitely been the best four years of my life!!!!

i love him

this picture was taken on the day we got engaged! 🙂

To celebrate, we booked a trip to New York (where we got engaged!) on a complete whim. Like 2 days ago. We have never done anything before that we planned for less than this trip. And because of that… I’m ecstatic!! Spontaneity is so romantic, don’t ya think?! Thankfully we were able to find someone to take care of our three hounds, so we’re ready to jetset! (Travel tip: Wait til the last minute and hotel rooms that haven’t been booked yet are really cheap!)

On a completely different note…

I’m pretty obsessed with the new app from A Beautiful Mess. I’ve seriously had WAY too much fun with it… I highly recommend the download!

Best photo edit app EVER!!

With that being said, I compiled a couple of my favorite quotes/sayings/things I just thought were appropriate. All created in A Beautiful Mess!

To go along with the trip to New York, this is one of my favorite quotes from Breakfast at Tiffany’s, which is set in the Big Apple! And you have to say DAHling like she does in the movie, you can’t say DARling. Audrey Hepburn would be heartbroken if you said it incorrectly…

Breakfast at Tiffany's // The Lovely Bee

To go along with it being our anniversary, this is one of my most favorite Bible verses! So perfect for almost any relationship!! I really love this whole passage, but since space was a slight issue… 🙂

Ecclesiastes 4:11

Lastly… In line with it being Memorial Day weekend, I’ve always loved this quote by Ronald Reagan, and it seems kind of patriotic to me, so it’s perf for Memorial Day!! I also just think this is a great thought to always keep in mind. A good home life is so important!

If anyone has any recommendations of things to eat/see/do in NYC, leave me a comment! I’d love to know what you recommend! 🙂

Happy Memorial Day!!!

Fashinspiration: Singing In The Rain + Barcelona’s Fairy Bar!

With the torrential downpour we had earlier today, I was inspired to finally get this post up that Elish and I shot over a month ago during a rainy spell! (Better late than never, right?!) Her “rainy day fashion” is super adorable! Allow her to explain…

Fashinspiration | The Lovely Bee

The other day, I popped on over to Arco Avenue to take a peek at the newest Dolce Vita and to lust over the Butter London polishes… And to visit my friend Laurel of course! 🙂 We took a break to snap a pew pics for the blog… and tried to make the best of the rainy weather. I just piled on several layers to handle however the weather changed that day. You just never know in Mississippi! I also realized another exciting thing… this is a total bargain look!

Thanks Elish!! LOVE the layering!

So, while Elish is on the Miley Cyrus confession kick… I own Miley Cyrus clothing too… Two pieces, actually… And I love them! Here are my Miley Cyrus shorts– I wore them out in Barcelona when my husband Price, my brother-in-law Jesse, and I all tried to dress really “euro” and experience night life like the locals. (Disclaimer: Price and Jesse would NEVER dress like this in America… These outfits were for one night and one night only. Price is wearing capris, which cannot be seen…)

We had so much fun, and I think my fun was in large part due to my hot pink Miley shorts! 🙂

"Euro Night" | The Lovely Bee

While we’re on the topic– If you ever go to Barcelona, be sure to visit “The Fairy Bar!” where this photo was taken!! It’s formal name is Bosc de las Fedes Cafe and it is nuts! My go-to travel expert/bestie Avery told us about it! It’s like you’re in a creepy version of a fairy tale movie in there… Big trees with faces on the trunks… little streams with fairies along the banks… mirrors with crazy fairy tale characters behind them… Seriously, it’s really cool but pretty nutso! We loved it!!

I think I’ve segwayed enough for today! Haha! Hope you enjoyed the random travel tip + fashion segment! 🙂 Have a wonderful week!
