My Favorite Room :: My Kitchen

Happy Friday!

It’s been a little while since I’ve done a My Favorite Room post, and I’ve been missing them, so I’m so glad today ends the streak of favorite room nothingness!

(For you who might not know about this series, it’s a fun thing I like to do with my blogger friends where they answer seven questions about their favorite room in their house and send me photos! Be sure to check out all the past My Favorite Room posts when you have a chance!) 🙂

Today, we get a little tour of the kitchen of my sweet friend Lauren who is the blogstress over at Four Bowies and is also the founder and queen baker of Meringue Macaron Kitchen, the most incredible French macaron business ever! She tells what makes this room special, a little about her baking, and when she most loves being in there!

What is your favorite room in your house?

My favorite room in my house is my kitchen… at least as of late. You know us women, we tend to change our minds a lot. But I’ve been spending lots of time in my kitchen lately and it has definitely become my happy place.

What about this room makes you love it so much?

I think the main reason I love this room is because of how it makes me feel. I think it’s beautiful, but more than that, I like to make things here. I like to use my hands and create something beautiful. I love my subway tile backsplash and my kitchen counter and the memories made in this kitchen and the many French macarons that leave this kitchen. There’s something dreamy about creating something with your hands and then handing it off to people for them to enjoy. I don’t ever want to lose the appreciation that someone wants to spend their hard earned money on my French macarons. That’s a big deal.

If you had to pick your favorite element in the room, what would it be?

My favorite element in this room is the fact that the lights dim and the subway tile backsplash! Oh, and my collection of dish towels. I’m a sucker for dish towels.

What’s your paint color?

My wall color is Analytical Gray and my trim/cabinet color is Alabaster… both by Sherwin Williams.

At what time of day do you most enjoy being in this room?

The time of day I love this room the most is either first thing in the morning to make coffee for my husband (when I then talk his head off while he is still waking up) or mid morning when I am baking non stop and feeling really accomplished and organized!

If you had to describe this room in 3 words, what would they be?

My kitchen in three words… fresh, cozy, clean.

Anything else you want us to know about your favorite room?!

I love my kitchen… not in spite of the messes I make there, but because of the messes that are made there… As a close family member says, we are doing life here! Safe to say a lot of life happens in my kitchen and for that I am thankful.

Thank you SO MUCH Lauren!! If y’all are ever in need of macarons, I hiiiiiighly suggest contacting Lauren! Those little cookies really are something special. Once you try some, please come back and tell me what you think! 🙂 And have a wonderful weekend!!!

My Favorite Room :: My Lofty Living Room

It’s been a little while since I’ve posted something new in the My Favorite Room series, so I’m excited to bring you this unique space by my new blogger friend Lindsay Jo! Her blog is pretty dang cute… You should totally check it out when you have a few minutes! But before you head over there, get to know a little bit more about her and her home here! 🙂

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

1. What is your favorite room in your house?

My favorite room in my house is the living area. I currently live in a loft in downtown Columbus, MS. Aside from the one huge living area, there’s only 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. Naturally, this is where we spend the most time.

My Favorite Room :: Our Lofty Living Room // A Cup of Lindsay Jo for THE HIVE

2. What about this room makes you love it so much?

I love it because it is different. It is far from your traditional home with designated rooms, which made it trickier to decorate, but I do like how it’s come along. It is perfect for entertaining because whether you are cooking, dining, or watching TV, everyone is in the same room.

3. If you had to pick your favorite element in the room, what would it be?

The industrial elements – the brick walls, high ceilings, and exposed duct work. These give it a very urban vibe.

My Favorite Room :: Our Lofty Living Room // A Cup of Lindsay Jo for THE HIVE

4. What’s your paint color?

It’s a plain jane beige. With the brick wall, I’m not sure I’d really want a bolder color.

5. At what time of day do you most enjoy being in this room?

Any time, because that means I’m not at work. 🙂 I really enjoy being in here in the mornings because the sun is coming through the French doors. I like to open them before the streets get too noisy.

6. If you had to describe this room in 3 words, what would they be?

Modern yet classic. I try to incorporate some modern, trendier pieces with some classic pieces I actually received from my family that will withstand the test of time and my varying taste.

My Favorite Room :: Our Lofty Living Room // A Cup of Lindsay Jo for THE HIVE

7. Anything else you want us to know about your favorite room?!

My grandfather actually made my clock, the rocker, and the blue cabinet for me. Fun fact – the couch is huge, and did not fit up the back stairwell as planned. It had to be hoisted with rope on the top of a truck through the French doors and over the iron balcony railings. All of this was done without scratching the leather. I dread the day we move and have to come up with the exit plan for that couch!

Thanks so much, Lindsay Jo!! I love that your dogs made an appearance in the background of that last picture! 🙂 Be sure to check out all of the other posts in the My Favorite Room series here! And don’t forget to check out A Cup of Lindsay Jo!

Have an awesome day and thanks for stopping by! XO!

My Favorite Room :: Our Den

It’s about time to explore the favorite room of another one of my favorite bloggers! I absolutely love this addition to the My Favorite Room series! 🙂 Allow me to introduce you to Lauren Steele, bloggista over at Sunshades & Snowflakes!

Lauren and I were at Mississippi State at the same time, and I actually went to high school with her husband David! She’s a dog lover (Nilla is a precious lab!) and quite the talented fashionista! I absolutely love following her blog and think her style is just impeccable! Let’s take a look at her favorite room now, okay?! 🙂

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

What is your favorite room in your house?
Our den!

My Favorite Room :: Our Den // Lauren Steele of Sunshades & Snowflakes for THE HIVE

My Favorite Room :: Our Den // Lauren Steele of Sunshades & Snowflakes for THE HIVE

What about this room makes you love it so much?
It’s one of the only rooms of our newlywed apartment that I consider “fully decorated” and it’s where we hang out the most. It also has it’s quirks – like the closets being in it.

My Favorite Room :: Our Den // Lauren Steele of Sunshades & Snowflakes for THE HIVE

Our bedroom only has one small closet, which I think means this room (my favorite room) was really supposed to be the bedroom, but it’s the biggest room in the apartment so I wanted it to be the den. I think it’s funny that we get ready in the morning in our den and I know ONE DAY it will be one of those “remember the first place we ever lived….” quirks that you look back on. Although right now I’m constantly reminded of the lack of a dresser and how if I try on multiple outfits, it’s our den that becomes messy! Haha

If you had to pick your favorite element in the room, what would it be?

Surprisingly, the couch. The couch is made of half down feathers which makes it VERY comfortable and it’s also oversized. You really sink down into it. Because David is so tall and has a hard time fitting in our “breakfast nook” we end up eating most of our meals “tv dinner tray style” in the den on the couch. It’s also where we watch movies and the first place I go to decompress with a glass of wine and some cheese after a long day. I love it.

My Favorite Room :: Our Den // Lauren Steele of Sunshades & Snowflakes for THE HIVE

I also love that it’s white, but it’s really a slip cover so I don’t lose sleep over Nilla hopping on every now and again.

My Favorite Room :: Our Den // Lauren Steele of Sunshades & Snowflakes for THE HIVE

What’s your paint color?

I have no idea – the landlord won’t let us paint. What color would y’all call it?

At what time of day do you most enjoy being in this room?
Around 10 a.m. Because if I’m there around 10 it means it Saturday… and I LOVE Saturdays.

If you had to describe this room in 3 words, what would they be?
Cozy, simplistic, enjoyable

My Favorite Room :: Our Den // Lauren Steele of Sunshades & Snowflakes for THE HIVE

Anything else you want us to know about your favorite room?!
I like that the chair was David’s Dad’s chair he used all during medical school to study in and it was in David’s house growing up. I have really enjoyed the oversized sheet music art piece with the notes from our first wedding dance song “stand by me.”

My Favorite Room :: Our Den // Lauren Steele of Sunshades & Snowflakes for THE HIVE

Although “things” don’t matter, I truly do love my Annie Glass cabinet because I used to work in a gift store that sold it. I would always admire it and wonder if I would ever own a piece – I love every single piece and remember who gave me which ones. I also installed the lighting on the cabinet which required me to learn how to use a drill.

My Favorite Room :: Our Den // Lauren Steele of Sunshades & Snowflakes for THE HIVE

I like that the rug is a little rough and wakes me up in the morning with my coffee and I like that even though I begged David not to bring that coffee table over because I didn’t like the way it looked, it’s been the best piece of storage furniture in our tiny newlywed apartment, reminding me to keep an open mind and go with the flow!

My Favorite Room :: Our Den // Lauren Steele of Sunshades & Snowflakes for THE HIVE

That about wraps it up!

Thanks so much for the tour, Lauren! (Price and I danced to Stand By Me as our first dance too! Love that you turned it into art– brilliant!)

I hope you’ll take a moment to go explore Sunshades & Snowflakes to get to know Lauren a little better! 🙂  And if you liked this room, check out the rest of the posts in the My Favorite Room series!

Have a wonderful, wonderful day! XO!

My Favorite Room :: Our Dining Room

I’m excited to share another post in the My Favorite Room series from my darling friend and fellow collaborator for The Lovely Buzz, Sara Beth!

(In case you’re not sure what this series is all about, it’s where I ask some of my favorite bloggers to give us a little insight into their favorite room in their house!)

This series has been so much fun for me because I love seeing the unique interior styles of those whose blogs I so admire! 🙂 And Sara Beth does not disappoint! I hope you enjoy learning about her favorite room as much as I did!!

My Favorite Room :: The Dining Room // Sara Beth Cobb for THE HIVE

1. What is your favorite room in your house?

My favorite room is our dining room. It’s semi-open to our living room, but it has a style that is different from the rest of our house. I wanted it to have its own unique feel. It’s a little fancier, but it still has a warmth about it that hopefully says, “Come dine with us for awhile. Let’s sip wine and eat well and have great conversation.”

2. What about this room makes you love it so much?

I love the mood of the room. We mixed traditional furniture and silhouettes with modern textures and color. I wanted the room to feel different than the rest of our house but still flow well. It has the most contrast of any room in our house, and I love the bold paint color mixed with some of the softer, more elegant pieces.

My Favorite Room :: The Dining Room // Sara Beth Cobb for THE HIVE

Another reason I love this room is because it contains a lot of our most prized possessions. It holds my grandmother’s heirloom china, a repurposed wash basin that was my great-grandmother’s, a wine rack that was my grandfather’s… The table and china cabinet belonged to family, as well. I feel like a lot of family history meets in this room and gives it character and backbone, and that makes me really happy.

My Favorite Room :: The Dining Room // Sara Beth Cobb for THE HIVE

It’s also the place where life stops, and relationships are undistracted. We have formal dinner parties around this table with china and crystal, and we also have dinner just the two of us, most every night. We unwind here with no cell phones. We savor the meal and slow down. We both love to cook, so it’s nice to spend some time cooking and then sit down and actually enjoy it. Some of our best conversations happen here. Something about this room just stops the rest of the world for me…even if just for a few minutes.

3. If you had to pick your favorite element in the room, what would it be?

Definitely the painting on the wall by Brent Funderburk. It’s called “Beyond”. It’s special for many reasons, one being my love for dance. I love the abstract elements, as well. It really leaves room for the imagination and for symbolism. My husband bought this painting for me secretly and surprised me with it in a gallery on Mississippi State’s campus on the anniversary of our engagement. He and Brent were in on it together, planning and scheming the perfect reveal. Jonathan knew that I loved Brent’s watercolors (and he was one of my favorite professors in school). He had followed his work since we were in college together.

My Favorite Room :: The Dining Room // Sara Beth Cobb for THE HIVE

On the day of the reveal, he casually mentioned that we should stop by and see Brent at the gallery on campus. We walked in and Brent gave me a detailed tour of the new gallery, and finally, his work. I was in awe. I read every single title, and when I got to this one, the tag read, “Collection of Mrs. Sara Beth Parks Cobb.” It took it a second to compute, but once I understood that it was mine, I lost it and cried like a baby. It was one of the most thoughtful things anyone has ever done for me, and it was my first real piece of nice artwork. I will treasure it for always. I’m glad I married a romantic. 🙂

4. What’s your paint color?

It’s called Bark, and it’s Valspar Waverly Series.

5. At what time of day do you most enjoy being in this room?

The light is beautiful in the morning. I love to open these curtains before I start the coffee pot and look out at the new day. But I enjoy evenings here the most. There’s nothing like finishing a long day with a good meal around the table.

My Favorite Room :: The Dining Room // Sara Beth Cobb for THE HIVE

6. If you had to describe this room in three words, what would they be?

Eclectic, Special, Romantic.

7. Anything else you want us to know about your favorite room?

We have put a lot of love into this room. The furniture was handed down to us from Jonathan’s side of the family, and it was in almost perfect condition. The chairs had some nicks here and there, so we sanded the places that needed to be fixed and painted them black to give them a modern pop and break up some of the cherry. I recovered the seats with an art-nouveau inspired fabric that is yellow and off-white.

My mother gave me my great grandmother’s old wash basin table. I had always loved the piece, and my great grandmother and I were very close. The paint was chipping and it needed to fixed up, so my husband stripped it and painted it a beautiful glossy black. We loved the idea of getting some newer hardware that had an antique feel to them, so we got some glass hardware pieces from Restoration Hardware. We had some space in our dining room, and we thought it make for a fun little bar space. We’ve enjoyed it so much, and it’s stocked with vintage drink glasses that belonged to my grandfather. My husband is also into mixing classic cocktails, so he loves to use the vintage drink mix book that one of our dear friend’s gave us. We feel very “Mad Men” when we’re at our little refurbished bar.

I really love decorating the dining room for Christmas, too! I like to play with different tablescapes and hang Christmas cards all around the room. It just gets me in the Christmas spirit!

My Favorite Room :: The Family Room

Today is another My Favorite Room day!

My super cute friend Amanda Wells (whose fun blog you can catch here! And who is also a very talented writer, DIY professional, and super cute mom of three!) gave us all the details on her awesome family room! I love the style of her home and enjoyed learning more about her favorite room in her house! I think you’ll enjoy, too! 🙂

My Favorite Room :: The Family Room // Amanda Wells for { THE HIVE }

What is your favorite room in your house?
Our family room.

What about this room makes you love it so much?
It’s where our whole family (Nathan, myself, and our three kids) spend most of our time. It’s where we relax and spend time together. I’ve tried to really make it a fun place that our kids want to hang out. All I’ve ever really wanted my house to be is a great place for them to grow up!

My Favorite Room :: The Family Room // Amanda Wells for { THE HIVE }

If you had to pick your favorite element in the room, what would it be?
Probably the pops of color! I have a thing for bold, bright color mixed with black and white, and believe it or not, this room is evidence of my restraining myself. It’s a miracle that every wall isn’t painted a different color. Overall, I love that the family room is comfy and fun.

My Favorite Room :: The Family Room // Amanda Wells for { THE HIVE }

What’s your paint color?
A very basic Antique White by Valspar. You can buy it pre-tinted at Lowe’s. Since I change my mind a whole lot, I couldn’t commit to an actual shade, so we used this throughout our house.

My Favorite Room :: The Family Room // Amanda Wells for { THE HIVE }

At what time of day do you most enjoy being in this room?
Really, all day, because we are there most of the day. The girls stumble in in the morning and sit in here to fully wake up, it’s where homework is done and it’s where we do our nighttime reading and prayers before bed. Plus, when they go to bed, it’s where my husband and I unwind, whether it’s watching TV or just having an uninterrupted, adult conversation.

If you had to describe this room in three words, what would they be?
Playful, funky and cozy.

My Favorite Room :: The Family Room // Amanda Wells for { THE HIVE }

Anything else you want us to know about your favorite room?
Having kids, I want my house to be a haven and a sanctuary for them, a place where they fit into the picture, so to speak. BUT – I believe it can still look good, too. It’s their home too, after all. I lived in the same house my entire life and I want my kids to have those memories of home that I cherish. I use a lot of family pieces and a lot of collected things that hold some sort of memory. I believe that’s what gives a house its character and soul and makes a house a home. And, it’s always changing. I joke that I have serious House ADD.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Love it, Amanda! I love the whole black and white + color thing, too. 🙂 #kindredspirits!

Be sure to stay up to date with what all Amanda has going on by keeping up with her blog! I love following this lovely girl! She’s just the bee’s knees! Wouldn’t you agree? 🙂

My Favorite Room :: Harper Lee’s Bedroom

Today’s edition of My Favorite Room is from my sweet friend Mary Kathleen Sims from Child, You’re Forgiven. Mary Kathleen is one of the sweetest people I know, and I think her house is completely adorable!

Today she gives us a little tour of her favorite room in her house, her daughter Harper’s bedroom!

What is your favorite room in your house?

That’s hard. Our house is small, so that forces us to spend time evenly in each room. The coziest room is, my (almost) two year old, Harper Lee’s room. It’s one hundred and thirty square feet of love.

My Favorite Room // Mary Kathleen Sims for { THE HIVE }

My Favorite Room // Mary Kathleen Sims for { THE HIVE }

What about this room makes you love it so much?

It’s personal. Every piece of furniture, book, tea set, hat, pillow, artwork has a deep meaning. The tea set on her dresser was mine, and the dresser (refinished in Annie Sloan Pure White chalk paint) was her grandmother’s (my husband Daniel’s mother). The wicker rocker chair was mine and the smaller chair was a gift for her first birthday. The embroidered pillows were also a gift from my mother. The drapes are from my mom’s house in Louisiana. She had them remade to fit Harper’s room! Yes, she’s was the first grandchild, clearly. The silhouette is me (of course), and my sister, Jill, had her first birthday party invitation framed. She’ll have all of these pieces forever. Her bed is my favorite place to relax in our house. The bedding is Pom Pom Maison from Carter Louise Antiques in Ridgeland. It’s very dainty. I love the linen mixed with light pink. Her pillow is one of the first things you see when you walk in the room. The scallops and script make it girly, but still age appropriate (it’s MATOUK from Chandelier Linens in Ridgeland, MS). The small details make this my favorite room.

My Favorite Room // Mary Kathleen Sims for { THE HIVE }

My Favorite Room // Mary Kathleen Sims for { THE HIVE }

If you had to pick your favorite element in the room, what would it be?

My favorite element is her hat rack. It’s originally a candlestick holder, but I repurposed it. I had been looking for one and finally found this at an antique/garage sale. (Turns out it was from a children’s store in Baton Rouge). Perfect. I loved hats growing up and want her to explore her imagination with them, too. It gives the room some depth and color.

What’s your paint color?

You got me. We closed on our house the week after Christmas and moved in on New Years Eve. Harper Lee was due on February first. That means I was thirty-six weeks pregnant with approximately two weeks to remodel our 1970’s home. I couldn’t tell you the name of that pink if I wanted to. It’s a very very light shade of pink. I didn’t want pink, but I have really grown to love it. I’m sorry I didn’t answer that correctly!

My Favorite Room // Mary Kathleen Sims for { THE HIVE }

At what time of day do you most enjoy being in this room?

Whenever we need to get dressed! I enjoy picking out Harper’s outfits everyday. Dressing a girl is fun for me! I’m especially thankful my mother enjoys it as much as I do. Her little shoes, coats, dresses and swimsuits… ah! I love getting her outfits ready and dressing my little mini-me. Now if I could only raid her closet… I will say, before she was born, Daniel and I would sit in here at night and talk about how much of a joy she was going to be. It was a sweet time for the both of us.

My Favorite Room // Mary Kathleen Sims for { THE HIVE }

If you had to describe this room in three words, what would they be?

sentimental – dainty – personalized

Definitely personalized. Everything on the wall is personalized. Her “H” from Restoration Hardware, “Harper Lee” in animals from the Mississippi Delta (thanks, Lucy Baird!), 2 month imprinted hand and foot (Sweet Dreams, Madison, MS), “Harper’s Bazaar” print from a childhood friend, “Harper Lee” pillow (Chandelier Linens, Ridgeland, MS), baby book (Sweet Dreams, Madison, MS), “Harper” stool (Ole Time Commissary, Jackson, MS) and her first birthday invitation (Herron Gifts, Ridgeland, MS).

My Favorite Room // Mary Kathleen Sims for { THE HIVE }

Anything else you want us to know about your favorite room?

Ok, ok. She still sleeps in her baby bed in her little brother’s room. I guess I’ll update you when she gets kicked out of there come December! 🙂 Here’s a sneak peek at his room. Big thanks to Laurel, who worked her magic and finally put a nail in my wall!

Isn’t Harper the cutest?! Her room fits her so perfectly! 🙂 Thank you, Mary Kathleen, for showing us around! 🙂 Can’t wait for baby number 2 to give us thoughts on his room! 😉

My Favorite Room :: Sam’s Nursery

Today’s edition in the My Favorite Room series is from my darling friend Katie from A Beautiful Blog! Katie and I used to work together at SummerHouse until she moved back to Birmingham a couple of years ago, but thanks to blogging, we’re able to keep up with each other really well! 🙂

Her favorite room is her son Sam’s nursery… I’m in love!! Check it out…

My Favorite Room // A Beautiful Blog for { THE HIVE }

1. What is your favorite room in your house?
My son Sam’s nursery is definitely my new favorite room, not to mention the only room that I can say with confidence is finished in our home!

2. What about this room makes you love it so much?
I love the light this room gets during the day! It is such a happy room, and some of my best organization can be found here (and these days, only here!). I also love the sweet baby smell it has 🙂

My Favorite Room // A Beautiful Blog for { THE HIVE }

3. If you had to pick your favorite element in the room, what would it be?
I would have to say the dresser and crib. Not really because they “make” the room, but because my hubby and I had one of our best days tripping it to Ikea. We got the dresser, crib, picture frames and window panels for a steal! We grabbed lunch at West Egg before heading back to Birmingham (highly recommend!). Once home we started assembling the furniture while listening to the Braves opening game against the Cubs and eating $5 pizza. Literally one of my best memories.

My Favorite Room // A Beautiful Blog for { THE HIVE }

4. What’s your paint color?
Sherwin-Williams Useful Gray.

5. At what time of day do you most enjoy being in this room?
I love the early mornings in Sam’s room. The soft light is welcomed company for those early morning diaper changes 🙂

6. If you had to describe this room in three words, what would they be?
Playful. Sentimental. Peaceful. (Playful and peaceful are conflicting words I know, but depending what we are doing in the room they both apply!)

My Favorite Room // A Beautiful Blog for { THE HIVE }

7. Anything else you want us to know about your favorite room?
Designing this room was unlike designing any other room in our house. I like for our home to evolve over time and not to look like everything was purchased in one fell swoop. However, in this situation I had 9 months! I set a budget, decided on what items I could spurge on and which ones I could get for a deal (hello Ikea!). The glider ended up being our most expensive purchase and so glad we decided to do so because I spend a lot of time in that chair 🙂 We have had the best time watching Sam grow and enjoy his room!

My Favorite Room // A Beautiful Blog for { THE HIVE }

Thank you so much Katie!!! I love the theme of this room and Katie’s color choices. Seriously, such a cute room.

For other favorite rooms, check out The Wowie’s SummerHouse room, Mary Straton’s daughter’s nursery, and my master bedroom! And don’t worry, there are more favorite rooms to come! 🙂

My Favorite Room :: The SummerHouse Room

Today, I bring you the third installment in the My Favorite Room series! I’m having so much fun seeing the favorite interior spaces of a few friends of mine! Today, The Wowie shares about her gorgeous living room!! Here we go…!

1.What is your favorite room in your house?

My favorite room is our “SummerHouse” room. I call it that because most of the furniture is from Summerhouse, and one of their talented designers helped me choose fabrics. I know what I like… pretty much everything. Never hurts to ask for some help to narrow things down a bit.

My Favorite Room // The Wowie for { THE HIVE }

My Favorite Room // The Wowie for { THE HIVE }

2. What about this room makes you love it so much?

The SummerHouse slogan is “Always Summer,” but the SummerHouse room motto is “Always Clean.” Unlike the keeping room, there are no piles of mail or laundry. No toys. No dirty little boys. Even when the entire house is a disaster, this room is neat and tidy. So, I hide in a corner with a glass of wine and pretend the whole place is spotless.

3. If you had to pick your favorite element in the room, what would it be?

I really like that we didn’t cram this room with a lot of filler. Everything has some meaning. We have trophies that belonged to both of our fathers…my father in law’s debate trophy and my father’s football trophy. SK’s homerun balls from Dixie Youth Baseball are in the bookcase. Our children’s silhouettes by Clay Rice, a set of 1960s science encyclopedias that my sister gave me, other gifts from family, pieces by local artists… we tried to make everything special.

My Favorite Room // The Wowie for { THE HIVE }

My Favorite Room // The Wowie for { THE HIVE }

And had you asked my favorite piece of furniture in the entire house, it would be this chest in the dining room. We got it at a local antique store to use as a changing table in Graham’s nursery. I liked it because it was taller (like me), and I didn’t have to bend down to change him. Once he was potty trained, it began its second life.

My Favorite Room // The Wowie for { THE HIVE }

Didn’t we all.

Not a real question. Incorrect room. Let’s get back on track…

4. What’s your paint color?

I have no idea. Isn’t that a terrible answer? I do know that I would like to paint it white. Two things stand in my way. There are 10,020 different shades of white paint. And I don’t paint.

5. At what time of day do you most enjoy being in this room?

If I get up in time, I love to have my coffee here. Since the windows in the room face the east, there is lots of natural light first thing in the morning. This time of year is perfect for opening the two sets of double doors to the screen porch and enjoying the beautiful weather. All the colors are calming, and it is the perfect place to start the day.

My Favorite Room // The Wowie for { THE HIVE }

And I truly enjoy it that one day a year I don’t peel myself out of bed at the last possible minute and drink my coffee while applying makeup in the car. (Kidding about the makeup… I’m too busy texting).

6. If you had to describe this room in three words, what would they be?

7. Anything else you want us to know about your favorite room?

We put our Christmas tree in here and entertain guests here. We snuggle up for family movie night and have our dance parties here. This room doesn’t see as much traffic as the rest of our house, but it does hold the best memories.

My Favorite Room // The Wowie for { THE HIVE }

Thank you so much to The Wowie for sharing her favorite room! So much fun… I love it!

I’ve got another gorgeous favorite room to show y’all next week from my friend Katie at A Beautiful Blog. Y’all are going to love it! Especially if you loved Mary Straton’s favorite room… 🙂 Stay tuned! XO!

My Favorite Room :: Eleanor’s Nursery

Last week was the beginning of a new column here on { THE HIVE } called My Favorite Room! I started it off with my own favorite room, and now my lovely blogger friend (and real life friend, too!) Mary Straton from Olive You, Darling is chiming in on her favorite room! It’s absolutely adorable, so let’s get started, shall we?!

1. What is your favorite room in your house?

First of all, I’m so flattered Laurel asked me to guest post on The Lovely Bee! It’s clear she has yet to figure out that she is much cooler than me. (Don’t tell her.) Now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk my favorite room. My daughter Eleanor’s nursery is the only complete dwelling in the house, so by default, that’s the only room I was willing to share. I’m a chronic procrastinator, but when you have a ticking time bomb in your belly, it kind of makes you stay on task. I must also ask that you forgive the poor quality of some of these pictures as I am no photog.

2. What about this room makes you love it so much?

I don’t know about y’all, but I love to peruse design blogs. Anytime I’m bored at work (read: more often than I care to admit), I pass time by trolling through my favorites, one of which is dedicated to nurseries and kid rooms. So as soon as we found out we were having a girl, I created a secret Pinterest board (follow me here!) with this room as the inspiration. My husband Kell was adamant that her room not be pink, and I wanted something not-too-sweet that could grow with her with a few changes here and there.

3. If you had to pick your favorite element in the room, what would it be?

Choosing a favorite is tough! This room was a total labor of love, literally. I did so many DIYs in this room because we were on a budget, but it really made it special and unique. And it was really fun to think I was doing it all for a little nugget I didn’t even know! But I think my favorite parts are the copycat mobile above her crib, the door hanger I made for the hospital and the dresser/changing table. I got it at our local flea market for a steal, and I didn’t have to do a thing to it. That’s what mama’s talking about. Oh, and the valance for the curtain! It made me get out my sewing machine again.

4. What’s your paint color?

Again, taking inspiration from the Lay Baby Lay nursery, I tried to best match the color and ended up going with Benjamin Moore “Ocean Spray.” I just now noticed that it sounds like a cranberry juice brand. Huh.

5. At what time of day do you most enjoy being in this room?

Right now, I love being in this room whenever Eleanor is in it playing. After I pick her up from school in the afternoon, Kell and I sit in the room with her and watch her play and crawl and put various items in her mouth. But months ago, when she was much smaller, I loved sitting in the dark and rocking her to sleep. I hope she grows up loving this room as much as I do.

6. If you had to describe this room in three words, what would they be?

Calming, eclectic, girly

7. Anything else you want us to know about your favorite room?

I think it’s so important to remember that if you have your sights set on high-dollar design, it’s totally possible to create the same look on a budget if you’re willing to spend some time at the craft table or on the internet looking for good deals. Pinterest is full of great tutorials, so take inspiration from things and places you love and make them your own! If you’d like to know more about Eleanor’s nursery, check out my post on that very subject for every little detail plus DIY links!

A big thank you to the lovely Laurel for asking me to post! I can’t wait to see more of the favorite rooms from all over!

My Favorite Room

Today is the first installment of a new column here on { THE HIVE } that I’m super excited about! It’s called My Favorite Room and I think it’ll be really fun… The idea is to focus on one particular room, sharing what it is about that room that makes it so special. I’ve asked several of my blogger friends to send me pictures and answer a few questions about their favorite rooms, so I’m thrilled to see what they all come up with! 🙂

I figured I would go first in talking about my favorite room and answering the questions I’m sending them, so here she blows!

What is your favorite room in your house?

Our master bedroom 🙂

What about this room makes you love it so much?

I think it’s the fact that we just recently mounted our TV on the wall (props to my handy husband Price for running wires so they don’t hang down from the back of the TV!) and I’ve really tried to get more organized in there. It’s finally starting to take shape, so as of late, I just love spending time in there!

If you had to pick your favorite element in the room, what would it be?

I think it might be the lamps flanking the TV on the chest of drawers. They just seem to add so much brightness and character!

What’s your paint color?

Ben Moore Linen White. My fave, thanks to SummerHouse!

At what time of day do you most enjoy being in this room?

Definitely at night, at the end of the day. I love getting in bed with Price and the pups and putting a good show on. I especially love the mood when the overhead lights are off and all the lamps are on!

If you had to describe this room in three words, what would they be?

A-collaborative-effort, fun, and relaxed.

Anything else you want us to know about your favorite room?

I really like that Price and I pretty much designed this room together. He picked out the art over the bed (which honestly, I wasn’t crazy about at first, but once I found some fun pillow fabrics that looked good with it, I started liking it a lot more!) as well as the wooden bed and the antique mantle that we mounted on a blank wall. It was all his idea! I also love that we’ve got washable bedding, so whenever the dogs want to join us, we don’t have to worry about permanently messing anything up (since it’s mostly all white.)
